“Finding Freedom,” “That Bird Has My Wings,” and David Sheff’s biography of Jarvis —“The Buddhist on Death Row” —have been translated into multiple foreign languages, and more are on the way.
Spanish Translation
That Bird Has My Wings has been translated into Spanish as Este Pájaro Tiene Mis Alas by Lara Hernández and was released by Spanish publishing house Editorial Dilema.
Brazilian Portuguese
Finding Freedom has been translated into Brazilian Portuguese as Encontrando a Liberdade by Marina Vargas and was published by Leya Brazil.
Jarvis’ book is now officially included in Brazil’s national secondary curriculum, after being a finalist for Brazil’s PNLD grant (2021), which funds one of the world’s largest state textbook adoption programs.
This title is among dozens that can now be chosen by educators for use with students ages 15-19 for at least the next three school years. All PNLD-selected books are accompanied by resource materials compiled by publishers for use in Brazil’s public schools.
French
Finding Freedom has been translated into French as Méditations d'un condamné by Justine Richard and was published by Guy Trédaniel and is also available online here.
German
Finding Freedom has been translated into German as Die Geburt Der Freiheit by Ariane Lampe and has been published by Edition Steinrich.
German
The Buddhist on Death Row by David Sheff has been translated into German as Gefangen Und Frei: Der Buddhist in der Todeszell by Gerd Bausch and was published by O.W. Barth.
Norwegian
The Buddhist on Death Row by David Sheff has been translated into Norwegian as Buddhisten på dødscellen by Ingela T. Flatin and has been published by Flux Forlag.
Portuguese
The Buddhist on Death Row by David Sheff has been translated into Portuguese as O Budista No Corredor Da Morte by Heci Regina Candiani and was recently released by publishing house Sextante.
Italian
The Buddhist on Death Row by David Sheff has been translated into Italian as Il Buddhista Nel Braccio Della Morte by Emanuela Alverà and is available now from Ubiliber, the publishing house of the Italian Buddhist Union.
